A seizure is a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain that can cause changes in behavior, movements, sensations, or levels of consciousness. Seizures can occur in people of all ages and may happen once or repeatedly as part of a seizure disorder or epilepsy.

Common Causes of Seizures:

🔹 Epilepsy – A neurological condition causing recurrent seizures.
🔹 Head Injury or Trauma – Can lead to brain damage, triggering seizures.
🔹 Brain Infections or Tumors – Meningitis, encephalitis, or brain growths can cause seizures.
🔹 High Fever (Febrile Seizures) – Common in young children.
🔹 Metabolic Disorders – Such as low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) or electrolyte imbalances.
🔹 Stroke or Brain Aneurysm – Reduced blood flow to the brain can provoke seizures.

Symptoms of Seizures:

Sudden jerking movements or convulsions
Staring spells or brief loss of consciousness
Uncontrollable muscle spasms
Confusion or disorientation after the event
Repetitive movements or unusual sensations

When to Seek Medical Help:

Seek immediate medical attention if:
🔸 The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
🔸 The person has trouble breathing or regaining consciousness.
🔸 Another seizure follows immediately.
🔸 The person is injured during the episode.
